H2S Alive® (Energy Safety Canada)

Course by: Global Training

SKU: 6826

Description

H2S Alive® is a one-day program designed to educate workers on how to work safely in and around hydrogen sulfide (H2S) environments. H2S, also known as sour gas, acid gas, stink damp, or sulphurated hydrogen, is a naturally occurring gas. It is colorless, heavier than air, and highly toxic. It can impair the sense of smell and cause eye and throat irritation at low concentrations, while higher concentrations can be fatal. In industries where H2S may be encountered, proper training is essential for personal protection.

This comprehensive training safety course equips participants with the skills and knowledge to identify and detect H2S, mitigate hazards associated with H2S environments, and respond effectively to incidents involving H2S releases. It covers both theoretical concepts and practical application exercises to ensure a thorough understanding of H2S safety protocols, in compliance with safety regulations and certificate tracking.

Learning Objectives:

By completing the H2S Alive® training, participants will achieve the following learning objectives:

  • Understand the properties of H2S and initial response strategies for H2S environments.
  • Recognize the toxic effects of H2S and the importance of safety measures.
  • Identify common locations where H2S may be present.
  • Familiarize with various types of respiratory protective equipment, including Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and Supplied Air Breathing Apparatus (SABA).
  • Learn how to operate and interpret readings from detector tube devices.
  • Acquire rescue techniques and rescue breathing skills.
  • Analyze case studies related to hydrogen sulfide incidents.

Competencies:

Participants must successfully complete the Energy Safety Canada written competency check, achieving a minimum score of 70%, to obtain a pass mark and certification. Upon successful completion, students will be issued a training certificate valid for three (3) years. Please note that certificates are non-transferable.
